Performance: between 19.00 – 22.00 on Friday, 16th March 2018
Exhibition: 17th to 24th March. Viewing on request.

This is the inaugural yet low key event of Chateau Marcus.
Joana Cifre Cerdà is a multidisciplinary artist. She is very interested in performance and has performed widely both in the UK and in Spain. Based in Lincolnshire since 1994, she has recently finished an MA Art by Research at University of Lincoln.
Joana describes what she will explore in this performance with the following words:
I want you to feel the weight of my loss…. or is it the weight of my freedom? This is a performance in which, through the making of sculptures that weigh exactly the same as the uterus I had removed nine weeks ago, I share my confusion, my fear, my relief, my astonishment. What will happen now? Will I still be the same? Will I feel the same? Will I be more tame now that my hyster is gone?

I am a photographer and media artist based in Bristol and Vienna. I create installations and projection works and engage diverse audiences in and beyond the gallery space. With my practice I examine the perception of the photographic/filmic frame within a socio-cultural context. In particular I am interested in urban living and migration and in how agency can make a difference. I believe that art instigates change and that participatory works are empowering both to individuals and communities. My work is included in major collections such as the Museum of modern Art Vienna, Kestner Gesellschaft Hannover, the DG Bank Collection, the Art Collection of Upper Austria, SK Stiftung Cologne, and the Photo Collection Austria. I won two major fellowships (Arts Council Austria, City of Bremen), the Prize for Visual Art of Upper Austria, and a Research Fellowship at Southampton Institute.
In 2020 I was awarded a PhD for my practice research on ‘Digital Porosity and its Impact on the Mediation of Networked Images’ at the University of Plymouth (Funded by The 3D3 Center for Doctoral Training Programme). Prior to starting my doctoral inquiry, I undertook an MA in Photography and Urban Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London (2013) and an MA in Combined Media at University of Applied Arts in Vienna (1994).
